I like taking on projects. I get to try new things and get a sense of accomplishment after finishing it. Trying something new is project in self discovery, where you have the opportunity to get to know yourself by finding out what works for you and what doesn't.
Getting to know yourself has become something of major importance to me after years of not really knowing what I liked or wanted. My idea is, if I know myself better I can cater for myself better and that'll help me to create a life that I like living in.
That’s why I like challenging myself to take on projects like the minsgame or project 333. With that in mind about three months ago I started the 100 days of happiness project. The project goes over 100 days and each day you take a photo of something that makes you happy. You then share the photo on your chosen social media platform to share your happiness with other people.
After a hundred days of photos and happiness, here are four things I have learnt from the project:
1. My life is filled happy moments. Every single day I could find at least one thing to be happy about. From a nice cup of licorice tea to a brunch with friends, there was always something. I had all the basics I needed to live, plus some more. It made me think, that even though I have lots of dreams and aspirations for the future, if nothing changed for the rest of my life I could be content with what I have now.
2. To appreciate things first you need pay attention to it. During the 100 days some days were busy and it was easy to rush through and ignore things that would have made me happy. If I didn't pause to notice opportunities for happy moments were missed.
As I was anticipating happy moments everyday during the projects I was prepared to appreciate it. Also, writing down why something made me happy further solidified the experience in my brain where the experience became more memorable.
3. Simple routines and rituals make my life easier and more pleasant. I realised simple things like having my morning tea in peace started my day on a good note. When I don’t sit down and have tea in the morning I felt very deprived, as if I didn't have time for me in my life.
Having tea for me is a ritual that’s repeated many times throughout the day. I love it so much that whenever someone puts the kettle on, and I find out this is happening I yell out “Boiled water!” because I am that excited about having more tea. The smallest and simplest rituals are significant in making me feel happy .
4. I am not good at remembering to take photos. Most of the day I kept forgetting to take photos of the things that made me happy because when I was happy I was in the moment and didn't think of snapping photos. Especially when I was with people, I was too caught up in the moment to take photos with people. While this was a bad thing for the project I think it's a good thing in real life by not being so snap happy. Though having a few more photos with people in it would be lovely too.
What do you think of project 100 happy days? Would you do it to find out more about what makes you happy? Let me know in the comments.
With love & simplicity,
